NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR SUSTAINABLE TEXTILE PRODUCTION HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED.
In order to increase the reputation of Mongolian wool and cashmere in the world market and increase its competitiveness, the Standards Committee of the Certification Body of the Mongolian Wool and Cashmere Association has completed the “Sustainable Textile Production Guidelines” system standard in cooperation with the European Union Step EcoLab project.
The purpose of this standard is to make the textile sector meet the principles and standards of environmentally friendly, socially responsible and sustainable production in line with Mongolia’s long-term development policy “Vision – 2050” and the UN “Sustainable Development Goals – 2030”.
The standard covers a wide range of issues, including the rational use of natural resources, energy consumption, the use of chemicals, industrial waste, social responsibility, labor protection, and animal rights.
The Certification Body of the Mongolian Wool and Cashmere Association will conduct a conformity assessment within this standard and issue and certify a “Mongolian Noble Fibre – Sustainable cashmere” certificate of conformity.
The working group that developed the standard will receive a proposal from the wool and cashmere factories, which will be discussed by the Technical Committee of the MASM and approved as the national standard of Mongolia.
