“MONGOLIA CASHMERE KNOWN TO THE WORLD – 30” HONOURING EVENT HAS BEEN HELD
The event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian Wool Cashmere Association (MWCA), one of the non-mining main export sectors of Mongolian cashmere industry, was successfully held on November 25 at the Shangrilla Hotel. Representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, academic and research institutes,university, vocational schools, international donor organizations, cooperating partners, and industry enterprises participated in the ceremony.
J. Bat-Erdene, Member of Parliament and President of the MWCA, he noted in his opening speech “Today, 248,000 herder families are working in the agricultural sector in Mongolia. The average cashmere income of the herder household reached MNT 4.4 million per year, which indicates that the benefits of the development of this sector are mutually beneficial for the stakeholders. The cashmere industry produced 3.1 million products, the total sales reached 481 million US dollars, and the total export reached 434.6 million US dollars. This is an activity that contributes significantly to the formation of foreign currency reserves of Mongolia.”
D. Altantsetseg, the Executive Director of the MWCA, in her speech she said “It is very important to create tax and legal environment, which will be the main impetus for the recognition of Mongolian cashmere in the world. We are grateful for the government’s special focus on supporting non-mining export products and supporting the cashmere industry in major legal frameworks such as customs duties and VAT. I am pleased to note that while activating multi-cooperation with international governmental and non-governmental organizations engaged in the same type of activities in the cashmere industry, the non-governmental organization is carrying out quality and standard assurance of products and production systems within the scope of performing the functions of the government.”
During the event, Govi-Erdene Cashmere Ltd, received 04 certificates of primary and textile sustainable production from SMEs, by operating environmentally-friendly and energy-saving equipment in its production, using technological advancements to reduce inefficiency and consumption, introduce waste-free production using leftovers, and implement sustainable production with great emphasis on the proper use of natural resources.
During the “Mongolian Cashmere known to the World -30” event, presented to the participants the results of the past 30 years of cooperative activities of the member producers of the Mongolian Wool Cashmere Association, and the goal of sustainable development of the textile industry.
